On July 8th, Fugu Press will release “Scarlett Takes Manhattan,” the first graphic novel by Dr. Sketchy’s creator Molly Crabapple and her longtime collaborator John Leavitt. Set in the demimonde of Gilded Age New York, “Scarlett Takes Manhattan” tells the story of poor Bowery girl Shifra Helfgott, who rises to become the premier fire-eater of her age.
Chock full of rigged boxing matches, dirty politics, and turn of the century lesbian culture, “Scarlett” has been described as “disgustingly wonderful” by Warren Ellis and led Margaret Cho to call Molly “THE artist of our time.”

Cecilia Rouge-International burlesque performer appearing at Dr Sketchy’s 25th Feb
Cecilia Rouge has been living, eating, drinking and breathing burlesque for nearly 18 months now. She set up Leeds first burlesque workshops and pioneered a growing and welcoming scene in Leeds. As a performer her surreal, elegant and sometimes twisted comedic routines has taken her across to New York and the infamous Slipper Room and soon Paris. In between running top class burlesque events, eating her flowers and taming her birdcage, Cecilia can be found sticking herself to innate household objects thanks to a bizarre fondness of glue guns. Glamourous doyenne and larger than life character Ryvita Von Cheese has been performing burlesque since 2006 when she ran away with the circus. Ryvita Von Cheese’s comedy approach to routines is more “Carry on Camping” than “Cabaret”! Her performances and characters makes her a brilliant addition to any line up! Furthermore Ryvita is the organiser of the occasional Leeds Burlesque & Cabaret nights – The Wet Spot…another reason to love this lady more!!

Favourite Animals: Our Bryans whippets – ohh theyre lovely things they are. Could do with feeding up mid – theyre far too skinny.
Favourite drink: a nice mug of tea, or a cheeky gin and tonic.

Warren Speed is perhaps Europe’s leading male burlesque performer and regularly performs at all kind of events and shows as far afield as Rome, Oslo and Amsterdam, as well as all over the UK. Warren has been a stand-up comedian for ten years and also performs on stilts and as one half of the slapstick double act Cheeky Chappies. Warren is also the director of Growling Clown Entertainment who produce all manner of cabaret, burlesque, circus, freakshow and stand-up comedy shows mainly in the North of England, and they recently shot a 30minute TV sitcom pilot called “Freakarama”.
Warren likes badgers, sheds and wellington boots.

Dr Sketchy’s is what happens when cabaret meets art school. You bring your pencils and paper and we’ll bring you the most beautiful, bizarre and outrageous models for your sketching delectation! Think burlesque dancers, drag kings and queens, circus performers and we let you draw them for a whole three hours! All drawing levels welcome so what are you waiting for!!
